Tiger TOTS: Karate for 3- and 4-Year-Olds in Langley

Tiger TOTS is our karate program for 3- and 4-year-olds. It’s playful, active and full of high-fives, and it quietly teaches the skills preschool and kindergarten teachers ask for most: listening, taking turns and trying something brave.

What Tiger TOTS learn

Every class is built around play, with real lessons tucked inside:

• Listening and self-awareness: games that reward stopping, looking and listening
• Focus: short, fun drills that stretch attention spans a little at a time
• Confidence and courage: a big kiai, a brave jump, a new kick
• Respect and courtesy: bowing in, saying “Yes, Sensei” and waiting their turn
• Goal setting: earning stickers and stripes for good effort
• Safety: age-appropriate stranger awareness and what to do if someone is unkind
• Karate basics: simple stances, punches and kicks from Shotokan karate

Clear expectations and gentle, consistent boundaries help little ones feel safe and succeed. And it’s never too early to learn that hard work earns a reward.

What a class looks like

Classes are 30 minutes, just right for little bodies and short attention spans:

1. Bow in and a high-energy warm-up (10 minutes)
2. Karate time: punches, kicks and big kiais (10 minutes)
3. A game that builds listening and balance (5 minutes)
4. This week’s take-home binder project, high-fives and bow out (5 minutes)

Parents watch from our viewing area, which looks right onto the mat.

Is my child ready?

Tiger TOTS works best when children:

• Are fully toilet-trained
• Can follow simple, age-appropriate directions
• Are ready to go into class with the instructor on their own

Not sure? That’s what the free first class is for. It gives you and us a chance to see whether your child is ready, with no pressure either way. If they’re not quite there yet, try again in a few months.

Class times and pricing

Tiger TOTS runs on Wednesdays at 5:15 pm and Saturdays at 10:00 am. Your child’s first class is free. After that, it’s $99 a month for one class a week, plus a $199 registration fee when you join. Prices are plus GST.

What comes next

At age 5, Tiger TOTS move up to Junior Karate 5–7 with a head start on the basics, and their karate journey continues from there.
