Kickboxing for beginners
Kickboxing for beginners: real technique and a serious workout
Most people walk in having never worn gloves. In your first week you’ll learn a proper stance, the jab and cross, your first kicks and how to hit pads, and you’ll leave knowing you worked.

Why beginners like it
Built for your first class, not just your fiftieth
Start from zero
Stance, guard and footwork come first, and coaches fix your form as you go. No experience needed.
A full-body workout
Shadowboxing, bag rounds, pad work and a conditioning finisher: cardio and strength in one class.
Real technique
Jab, cross, hook, uppercut, knees and kicks, taught properly so they’re powerful and safe.
Your pace
Push hard or ease in. Everyone works at their own level, and it gets easier every week.
No forced sparring
Pads, bags and drills. Partner work is controlled and supervised, never forced.
Stress gone
There’s no better way to end a long day than an hour on the bags.

Kickboxing, boxing or cardio kickboxing?
What’s the difference?
| What it is | Good for | |
|---|---|---|
| Boxing | Punches and footwork only | Hand speed and fitness |
| Cardio kickboxing | A gym fitness class using kickboxing moves, usually to music | A workout; how much technique you learn varies |
| Kickboxing at Safeguard | Every boxing punch plus kicks and knees, on pads and bags, with real coaching | Fitness, technique and self-defence in one |

I have been attending the kickboxing class offered to teens and adults for about 5 months now after taking the free trial, and the experience has been fantastic. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and have created a learning environment that is welcoming to both beginners and more experienced athletes. Additionally, the monthly fee is incredibly reasonable.

Safeguard is my happy place. I started going to Safeguard when I was about 9 and ever since then I have gained so much confidence and strength. I have become super close with the students there.

Questions
What people ask us
I’m out of shape. Can I still start?
Yes. You work at your own pace, take a breather when you need one and build up week by week. Everyone starts somewhere, and the first week is free.
Do I have to spar?
No. Classes are built around pads, bags and technique. Any partner work is controlled, supervised and never forced.
What do I bring to my first class?
Athletic clothes and water. We have gear you can use for the trial, and the 6- and 12-month plans include your own gloves and shin guards.
How much does kickboxing cost?
The first week is free. After that it’s $179 a month on a 12-month plan, $199 on a 6-month plan or $229 month to month, with unlimited classes in your division.
Is this the same as cardio kickboxing?
It’s just as good a workout, but you learn real technique: how to stand, punch, kick and hit pads properly. Fitness classes often skip that part; here it’s the point.
Can teens and kids do kickboxing?
Teens from 13 train in the teen and adult classes. Kids 8 to 12 have their own Youth Kickboxing program, with gloves and shin guards and close coaching.
